RENA WAKAMA: A serial achiever

Rena Wakama was born on the 11th of April 1992, a former player who is now the head coach for the Nigeria Senior Women’s Basketball Team.

Coach Wakama was Signed by Chicago Sky as assistant coach too.

She was born in Raleigh, North Carolina in the US to Johnson Wakama and Rosana Oba who are natives of Okrika, Rivers State, South-South Nigeria. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation from the Western Carolina University, and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Manhattan College.

She is remarkable for her high fashion sense.

Since the 33-year-old Coach Rena Wakama’s appointment as the head coach of Nigeria’s Women Basketball team in 2023, She has been the first African coach to reach the Olympic quarterfinals.

Wakama led Nigeria to historic success, becoming the first African team to reach the Olympic quarterfinals and achieving victories against top-ranked teams like Australia and Canada.

She was honored as the best women’s basketball coach at this Paris 2024 Olympics by FIBA.

She is also the first Nigerian National Female Basketball Team coach to win the FIBA AfroBasket Women competition since it began in 1966.

The first female coach in the continent to ever win Afrobasket also.

Now she is aiming for another title.
